Jay has been a performer all his life and started his formal music training at an early age. He honed his skills by taking specialist vocal coaching courses under the guidance of his mentor, Heidi Edeling. He has performed in numerous musical theatre productions including, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and A-lad-in a Lamp, a pantomime, which ran at the Johannesburg Civic theatre (filmed and broadcasted by E-TV) for which he was nominated for aVita Award as best newcomer in a musical theatre production. He has performed in major corporate stage productions for companies like Ford, Toyota, GlaxoSmithKline, Seretide, Discovery, at Nelson Mandela’s 85th birthday, which was broadcasted live internationally, and most recently for Vodacom. He is also the winner of the prestigious 2001 ATKV Crescendo competition and was awarded the Geraas Music Award, in collaboration with Joe Niemand, for Best Pop Album. He is also a member of the now top selling pop act in SA, Eden, who in 2004 was nominated for 4 SAMA’s and have achieved gold status with their album “Point of no return”. The highlight of his career thus far in his capacity as a solo artist, has been performing as the opening act for West Life at sun city, to a packed Sun City Superbowl. |
