Jacques Lagesse

Book now

Jacques Lagesse is a solo entertainer with a velvet-lined voice, accompanied by the mellow tones of the acoustic and jazz guitars. Apart from the soft percussive rhythm machine, all music is played entirely live.  A minimal set-up space is required. Jacques has recently introduced a cabaret set featuring music from the Big Band Swing era, which is done to backing tracks. His repertoire consists mainly of popular brands of Laid-back Jazz Standards and Evergreen Romantic Ballads.  With his classic dress sense, one is reminded of Sinatra in his hey- day.

An Audio Engineer by profession, Jacques has placed great emphasis on the right sound - a soothing unobtrusive ambience is guaranteed.

Born from Mauritian stock, Jacques has a strong flair for Latin rhythms and has included many Bossa Nova and Samba tunes to his expansive repertoire.  He enjoyed a contract in Dubai where he performed to a cosmopolitan audience at a few of the major hotels. Jacques continues to record the Music of  Yesteryears and some original songs in his own studio – music that he feels should be shared with all ages….

Jacques’ clients include the likes of:   PPC, Hewlett Packard, SAP (Software), Nedcor, The Westcliff Hotel, Summerplace, The Saxon, Vodacom,Nissan  and South African Breweries.

Apart from performing at up-market company  functions around the country with his full complement of music and PA equipment, he has the ability to perform without any power source (“unplugged” is the term we use…).

Her debut album ‘Tranquillity’, produced and arranged by pianist Paul Hanmer, earned her the South African Music Award for Best Newcomer.  She was a SAMA finalist in three categories for ‘Tranquillity’ – Best Female Artist, Best Newcomer, and Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

Gloria’s drive and talent have enabled her to break into the Afrikaans music market, where she has developed a relationship with new fans through this interaction.  She has appeared at many of the major Afrikaans music festivals, including KKNK, Aardklop and Skouspel in Sun City.  Gloria was also recently part of a project called ‘Al Daai Jazz’, which were jazzy rearrangements of Afrikaans songs.

Her first music video ‘Amaqwati’ was nominated for a “Channel O” music video award for Best Afro-Jazz video.  This talented artist has also been nominated for the All African “KORA” Awards for Best Southern African Artist.
