Songwriter and artist with the voice of an angel. RJ BENJAMIN wrote his first song at the tender age of eight inspired by Michael Jackson’s classic Man in the Mirror, this gifted child wrote “Life in a
Mirror.”
“I was always shy in school and felt that whatever I was feeling would be better expressed through my songs.” Expressing himself he did - and the love that was felt by, Jazz, RnB and soulful sound lovers.
At the age of 15 he was playing the piano, and about the same time he was introduced to Prince whose music changed his perspective of music and artistry forever.
RJ drew his inspiration from Miriam Makeba, Stevie Wonder, Mahaila Jackson and various other Gospel and Soul artists.
At age 25 RJ BENJAMIN has established an unusual career in music and is teetering on the brink of international fame with the release of his debut album, “Who I Am.”
“Who I Am” is best described as funkadelic neo soul played by top jazz session musicians and accompanied by RJ BENJAMINS sultry, sexy voice.
So the album is skilful, intelligent and highly accessible to music lovers across the board. Included on the
album are collaborations with the godfather of SA Hip Hop - Amu and R&B sensation Ishmael. RJ
BENJAMIN produced the album with Kaybee, 37mph and Bongani Fassie as collaborating producers on
different tracks.
Aside from the release of this brilliant album, RJ BENJAMIN is South Africa’s most famous teacher. Not
only does he lecture music at Allenby Campus School of Contemporary Music and the National School of the Arts, he was voted most popular teacher on M-Net’s Project Fame.
RJ BENJAMINS first professional appearance was at the Metro FM Awards 2004 where he stunned South
