Laurie Pieters is the Author of the controversial new book, Shattered Lives The Story Of Advocate Barbie in which she and co author Liezl Thom tell the story of one of most infamous sex crimes trials South Africa’s history. She was a key witness for the prosecution in the Visser trial. The book has just reached best seller status.

Laurie Pieters heads a unique diagnostic team which includes a psychologist, pediatrician, polygraphist and forensic criminologist who, specialize in the assessment of child molesters or pedophiles. She is a Forensic Criminologist and appears in court as an expert witness. Laurie holds a specialist degree in Offender Profiling as well as and honours extensive training and experience in both Investigative Body Language, Veracity Testing and the assessment of offenders. She is conducting research into the financial benefits of pre-employment screening for both small businesses and large corporate’s.

Laurie Pieters has been a guest speaker at the North-West University in Potcheftroom giving talks on the role of offender profiling, the various Paraphilias including Pedophilia and sexual sadism and personality disorders found in serial offenders. She has appeared as a guest on SABC News, E-News, where she discussed the profile of serial rapist and measures women can take to prevent becoming victims of these predators. She is soon to appear on the new docu-drama Series Crimes Uncovered in an interview to air in mid2012. She was recently interviewed by Ray White  on Radio 702 and Anne Boves and Kobus Rudolph on Radio Rippel where the book was discussed in detail. She has been featured in numerous national magazine articles including Cosmopolitan, Finesse, Huisgenoot, You, Sarie and Rooi Rose.

Currently she is working on a number of books on a wide range of subjects dealing primarily with the Justice South Africa, the assessment of sexual offenders and risk assessment.

Future Books
At the present time Laurie is working on a book focusing on possible reasons or a combination of criminological and psychological explanations on why Cezanne Visser committed the crimes that she did. It will also delve into an explanation of what factors were probably considered by Acting Judge Exteen when he sentenced her to seven years in prison.
During the research into Jeannine’s du Plessis history and her life on the streets she heard many devastating stories about the lives on young women forced out of their families and onto the streets.She was privileged to be party to many shocking and frightening revelations about life and survival on the streets. The harsh realities faced by many young women on a daily basis. It was truly heartbreaking. At the present time I am working on a book focused on telling a number of these stories and unraveling the dark mysteries of the criminal underworld at work on the streets every day! The book will also explore the darker elements at work in Jeannine’s du Plessis life, those that ultimately led to her decision to end her own life.
Recently she was approached to write a book detailing the pros and cons of Bariatric or Gastric Bypass Surgery in South Africa. Working with a renowned surgeon, a dietician and a psychologist we explore options for South African patients.
