Michael de Pinna


Michael was born in London and educated in South Africa.
From the age of five he wanted to sing and sing he has.
His mother, Nadia Dore’ was one of Britain’s top big band singers performing for the likes of Bert Ambrose, Geraldo and Ted Heath.
His grandfather Michael Dore’ a well known violinist in Russia and Europe conducted Heifetz’s first concerto, conducted and played personally for Anna Pavlova and was a personal friend of Rimsky- Korsakov. He opened the Coliseum and Empire theatres in Johannesburg, and later became the leader of the Johannesburg City Orchestra.
 Michael’s father David was recruited from London to turn the Edward Hotel in Durban into South Africa’s first five star Hotel which he did for seventeen years and then returned to London as General Manager of The Grosvenor House.
Michael has had many roles under his belt.
He was the Leading man at the Lido in Paris and starred in Bedazzled which was Sun City’s third extravaganza.
In Bristol he performed in Babes in the Wood, and in Bournemouth appeared with The Bachelors in The Bachelors Show at the Pavilion Theatre.
Cabaret performances in London included being the Leading Man at the then famous L’Hirondelle and at Aphrodite’s in London’s West End. He then returned to South Africa due to his mother’s ill health.
Back in Johannesburg PACT cast him in the tribute to Edith Piaf called Edith Piaf No Regrets.
Then Annie followed, and they’re Playing our Song. These productions were for Brickhill Burke.
Later on and many years later He starred as Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Fagin in Oliver, and as The Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance which opened the new Natal Playhouse.
Comedy roles include The Jackal in Birds of Paradise, Abe in Beau Jeste, and Nate in This Old Man Came Rolling Home and, The Psychopath in the thriller, Murder in Green Meadows all for Pieter Toerien Productions.
Michael has performed in Cabaret at The Top of the Carlton, and for the then Sun International circuit all over South Africa.

Michael spent a number of years performing on cruise liners all round the world as Entertainments and Cruise Director
His musical TV roles include In Person with Michael de Pinna, Broadway at the Playhouse, And a Century in Song.
He starred in Egoli as the Iraqi assassin, Sayeed Assam, appeared with Leon Schuster in There’s a Zulu on my Stoep, featured in Rhodes, and fourteen years ago became the face for Vodacom as South Africa’s much laughed At Yebo Gogo.
He presently performs two concert type shows, one being an Evening with Michael de Pinna, and the other a two hander with his virtuoso violin playing cousin Liz Jones, named It’s Time.
Michael owns his own Event Decor Company called, Over The Top Event Décor and Design, and offers Executive Dining from his own home to selective guests.
