Lawrence Dube has spent the last 22 years in the broadcasting and media industry. During this time he has held various positions ranging from Talk Show Host, Television Presenter, Voice Over Artist, Producer, Director, Creative Design and Communications Director, Events Compere and Businessman. These positions were held in organisations ranging from the Bop Broadcasting Corporation, SABC, advertising agencies including other private institutions like the present day Radio Kaya FM.
Lawrence currently serves as Director on the Board of Radio Kaya FM. In this capacity, Lawrence is part of a team of Directors who give strategic direction to the overall running and management of the station. A founding member of the radio station in August 1997, Lawrence currently hosts the Afternoon Drive show. Apart from his involvement at Kaya FM, Lawrence is the CEO of the Music Union of South Africa (MUSA) Investment Trust and further serves as Director of Real Productions since 2001.
Lawrence has extensive experience in the field of entertainment, advertising, communication and radio and has interviewed the likes of Bishop Tutu, Walter Sisulu, Stevie Wonder, Kenneth Kaunda, Chinua Achebe and many other dignitaries including Government Bigwigs. In terms of television, Lawrence has been associated with programmes like, Toyota Top 20, Our Common Ancestor, Science Lab, Edutel and 50/50, an Environmental Documentary Programme. Prior to 1997, Lawrence served in the following capacities:
- 1983 – 1986: Radio Broadcaster – Afternoon Drive show, Radio BOP
- 1985 – 1986: Television Presenter – Music, Sports and Continuity, TV Bop
- 1986 – 1996: Radio Broadcaster – PM Drive Show, Breakfast Show, Evening Talk Show, Radio Metro.
- 1996 – 1997: Co Founding Member/Director, Planet Earth Productions(Designed President Mandela Children’s Fund Logo)
- 1989 – 1995: Television Presenter – Toyota Top 20, SABC
- 2000: Co Founding Member, Twins Communications company
- 2001: Tourism Ambassador, North West Parks Board
Lawrence is well traveled and has been exposed to radio broadcasting in the United States. Lawrence matriculated in 1979, and obtained a Certificate in recognition of his attendance on the Management Advanced Programme (MAP) at the Business School at Wits University. |
