Troika’s product as a trio is a polished and professional act at a pleasant volume.  We have our own sound available and need only a short setup time and sound check.  Troika’s image is presentable and trendy with a repertoire of Jazz, vibrant Latin music and Blues blended with our unique little twists.

The collaboration of Alicia van Dyk (vocals), Johann Oelofsen (guitar) and Rodger Hobbs (bass), is one of three accomplished musicians who all share a passion for music and life.

Their performance is vibrant and their unique style creates a full sound.

…Alicia van Dyk…

Alicia started to study B-Mus (classical music majoring in Classical Voice, Flute and Sax) but later found she was more interested in jazz music. She then studied jazz at TUT majoring in vocals where she also obtained her
B-Tech degree, in music. 

Now Alicia performs regularly at Restaurants, Lounges, Bars, Guest Houses, Weddings etc.  Alicia does performances in many different genres such as Jazz, Pop, Rock, Soul and R&B and is very flexible with the setup of the band.  Whether a full band with brass is needed or maybe a more relaxed trio or duo, she can deliver. 

Alicia is a lecturer at COPA (Campus of Performing Arts) and teaches music business, culture, theory, piano and vocals, and she has also recorded a commercial (Pop/Rock/Soul) album, working with IndieBlack Records, released as “Alicia Fairychild”.

“Alicia is a vibrant vocalist with a voice that drips in tone, and a huge vocal range, which allows her to perform virtually any music with the confidence that she can reach almost any note.

She is a polished performer who can “play” with a song musically and her jazz vocal soloing is way beyond a performer of her years.”

Alicia has had extensive experience in various genres of music and has worked extensively in live performances and studio sessions.

...Johann Oelofsen...

Johann is a professional jazz-trained guitarist who obtained his B-Tech degree at TUT (Tshwane University of Technology).

“He is blessed with a true passion and natural feel for almost any genre in music with a tone that’s unique, smooth and clean.”

Johann also teaches guitar privately and at WAMMO (Moreleta Church),
and played in ensembles directed by Hugo de Waal and Roland Moses.

..Roger Hobbs...

Roger started out on piano and then progressed to guitar which eventually ‘showed him the way’ to playing the bass.  Roger then went to study under Carlo Mombelli for a year which then made him decided to further his musical knowledge.  For four years he has studied at TUT where he has obtained his B-Tech degree in music.  He has played numerous gigs in and around Pretoria and Johannesburg with various artists.  Furthermore, he has also been a part of Jonathan Crossley Electric Band.

At university he has played for the TUT big band, which is led by John Davies, ensembles directed by Kevin Davidson, Hugo de Waal, Roland Moses and an ensemble guided by American guitarist Gary Wittner on his visit to South Africa.
