Fezile “FEYA” Faku
Fezile “Feya” Faku is a trumpet & flugel horn player born in the Port Elizabeth township of New Brighton. His passion for the instrument grew, with no formal training, from the guidance & support of the town’s local musicians. In 1988 he was accepted at Natal University & qualified for a Diploma in Jazz Studies. While in Durban, under the guidance of Darius Brubeck, he played with some of South Africa’s top jazz musicians including Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Barney Rachabane, Pat Matshikiza & Thandi Classen.
Feya has released two cds, Hommage & Tacit, recorded in Holland & South Africa respectively. He has recently released his third cd, the colours they bring, which features a new generation of South African Jazz musicians.
Feya has worked in Eastern & Western Europe, North & South America, Cuba & Japan. He has recorded with international musicians such Abdullah Ibrahim, Bheki Mseleku & Paul van Kemenade.
Feya conducts workshops as part of his tour programme. |
