Zesty media personality, award-winning songwriter/singer, actor, pianist and dynamic performer, Ed Jordan has been at the forefront of the local music scene, creating instantly memorable pop songs and entertaining crowds for over fifteen years. Most recently, you’ll recall him as a judge onthe popular Popstars in 2002andpresenting television’s The Wedding Show in 2003/4.

“Pop songs, even if they are of the moment, can be brilliant if written, performed and produced properly,” says Ed and he definitely knows what he’s on about. His 1997 album, Hear Me Howling, incorporated everything from love ballads, to straight-ahead pop, textured tunes and even some dance beats, and won a SAMA award. For thousands of his fans, Always, a homegrown wedding ballad from that album has had lasting impact on many lives. “I’ve been flown around the entire country to sing that song at weddings,” Ed says.  And then there’s African Christmas, an inspired piece of music, written for all South Africans that has become a Christmas staple. Crazy, an album brimming with well-known tracks was also extremely successful, as was the remix album recorded at London studios.

One of the country’s best-loved performers, Ed, who has an Honours Degree in Dramatic Art, spent a year co-writing the highly successful musical play Love, Crime and Johannesburg with Malcolm Purkey. He’s acted on stage and screen, and presented both television programmes and radio. Not to mention performing gigs just before Hootie & The Blowfish, Crowded House and stripping down to just himself and a piano, when supporting Bryan Ferry in SA. Ed’s six-month stint co-hosting Jeremy Mansfield’s breakfast show on Highveld Stereo also had an impact. “I spent six months writing jingles and bits of music for Jeremy,” he says. This led to his successful Mansfield album, BEER-YA-TI-FUL. He also joined Neil Andrews and his team on Super Saturday as ‘Musical Mystro’.

Much of Jordan’s time is taken up with writing and producing music for recording artists, advertising agencies, and various corporations, as well as acting as an MC at various functions. Ed’s new and innovative idea of team building through the power of song is proving to be a great success! His strength lies in his ability to tailor make an ‘anthem’ for your company/team/launch, capturing its slogans, strategies, attitudes and goals. Now he has  launched his first children’s album, Beautiful Creatures, a project which he wrote and produced with Alan Glass and that once again showcases the sheer versitality of this multi-talented man.
