"She was born to make music" is a statement Thalia's name is synonymous with. Daughter of well-known jazz bassist Pete Sklair and a vocalist & classical piano player herself since the tender age of 9, Thalia is a highly skilled musician and no stranger to diversity.
Thalia's DJing career began in 2005 giving DJ lessons at Capitol Music Café in Rosebank.
From the start she has had a progressive feel to her music, and now plays a selection of styles to her dance floors including Acid-Jazz and Funky house.
She has played all over South Africa: Johannesburg, Centurion, Cape Town, Durban, Kimberly, Knysna and has even played as far as Zambia and Namibia (Masquerades).
Thalia has played alongside top SA DJs such as Roger Goode, Lady Lea, Ryan Dent, Ricardo da Costa, Roger d'Lux, Missred, Warren Lissack and many more.
Thalia won the annual Gemini DJ Battle 2007, being the only female djette making it to the finals. She also made it to the semi-finals of the SYLD (support your local DJ) competition South Africa where she dropped out due to unfortunate circumstances.
After completing a music production/engineering course, as well as a music business course at Soul Candi and now producing her own tracks, Thalia is dedicated to paving the way forward for female DJ’s in South Africa, continually applying new and exciting aspects to her sets. She has done many vocal recordings (mostly Jazz) and has reached number 29 on the world chart with her vocals on Woven, a hit produced with Eric M.
Shining in the lime-light, Thalia is not just a great DJ, she is the whole package. Featuring on Go's (DSTV) GoChat, MK89's MKchat, and Yo.TV's Wildroom it is clear that she has the looks to go with the skills.
"There is no better feeling than playing a rocking set to a packed dance-floor."
This is a mantra Thalia lives by and most definitely proves every time she graces a club with her illuminating presence.
With a passion for what she does and a skill second to none, Thalia is arguably one of the hottest prospects in her profession at the moment, and there are still many sizzling hot tunes to come! |
