Six vibrant young people have formed the group, “Bella Vocè Africa” (Beautiful Voices of Africa) whilst still at High School in Shoshanguve, a township outside of Pretoria. The founder members hail from Shoshanguve whilst other members hail from Atteridgeville and Hamanskraal.

Their collective passion for Opera originally pegged them solely into the Classical Genre including well known Operatic Aria’s like Nessun Dorma, Brindisi, The Prayer, Nella Fantasia, Va Pensiero, La Donna e Mobile and many more.  Well known tunes such as “O sole mio”, “Funniculi Funicula” and “La Spagnola” are presented in a creative new arrangement.
Hard to ignore is their uniquely rich South African Heritage and rhythym which has had a unique effect on their harmonies and vocals, keeping traditional songs in their repetoire like “The Click Song”, “Pata Pata”, “Meadowlands”, “Wimbaweh (The Lion Sleeps)”, to name just a few.  Bella Voce Africa’s unique and exceptional vocal talents, have allowed them to also include some contemporary numbers into the mix like “I Will Always Love You”, “Paradise Road” , “Time to Say Goodbye” etc. All of this brings this unique group into a classification all on their own,  Classical/Crossover Contemporary/African.

Sylvia Blangwe, one of Bella Vocè Africa’s lead soprano, performed at a private function with 1000 invited guests at Mr Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Celebration held in Cape Town on 18 July 2008. Amongst the guests at the function were Oprah Winfrey, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Minister Tokyo Sexwale and other high profile delegates. Sylvia performed several solos during this performance. Bella Vocè Africa has also performed for the ANC President, Mr Jacob Zuma (now South African President) and the Premier of the Northwest Government.
