In the entertainment industry, she is called countless names - from sexy, vivacious, sexually provocative and Queen of the Dance Floor.
Others even go a step further by suggesting that she leaves fans drooling when she is wearing her itsy bitsy, teeny weenie dresses which have become her trademark.
But this is just simply Chomee, who, just before winning the Metro FM Music Award as the Best Styled artist was nicknamed Soweto's Pop Diva.
It was now history that a seasoned choreographer, Somizi Mhlongo, a person Chomee grew up looking up to, bitched about Chomee winning the award. There was too much brouhaha about the award, and the media had a field day on the issue.
"That award was voted for by the public, and I'm happy that they gave me a stamp of approval to continue entertaining them. I'm happy that with the thumbs-up sign they gave me, I can continue to entertain them and when I'm in the studio, I think about them when I do my songs," says Chomee.
Her real name is Thulisile Madihlaba and she was born in Meadowlands, Ndofire for others, in Soweto.
The dream started when Chomee joined 999 Music when she was only 10 years old, and this year, 2007, she will be celebrating 11 years with the company. She is also turning 21, and with her coming of age, she has achieved a couple of things - like releasing her third album under the same label.
Early this year she received her driving licence, and she matriculated while at the same company. Loyalty is synonymous with Chomee, hence she is happy that she will achieve more things with 999 Music. Arthur Mafokate discovered her and other youngsters as young kids and saw potential. While others left to pursue different careers while focusing on school work, Chomee was determined to live her dream - go to school, dance and one day release her own album.
In July 2007, she is releasing her third album titled My Fantasy. And if you are a fan of the late American hip hop singer and actor Aaliyah, you will see the similarities in terms of their singing and Chomee taking a leaf out of her idol.
The opener My Fantasy is typical - in terms of the production and singing - and Chomee just performs the song with aplomb. There is growth in this 15-track album from the days of Chomee when she released her debut, First Time and last year's award-winning album Twice As Nice.
She says: "The first album (First Time) I was learning the ropes, that’s why I titled it 19. I had just completed Matric and I was turning 19. It was like a present to me from Arthur. This one I’m more mature and in control. I’m actually making another statement in the music industry."
And for 999 Music to realise that Chomee could sing, took them hundreds of kilometres away from home in Mzansi. One of the reserved dancers at 999 Music, it took the likes of former colleague Ishmael and Arthur to have Chomee go on stage to sing in Oshakati, in the northern part of Namibia when the label was having a gig there.
"We just called her stage to sing. In front of thousands of fans, Chomee had no choice but to sing and she left a lasting impression. She just rocked the crowds, and this was in 2001. She never looked back though she was shy to stick out like and sing," says Arthur.
Chomee has come a long way to be where she is today. There was a time when she was nicknamed Sheneyne, but Arthur was not comfortable with the name and wanted her to have an easy and user friendly name like Chomee. The name means friend, Chomee has already made friends from her fans who have supported her from day one.
In her new album, she shows growth and the fact that she has not lost her touch with issues that fact youngsters - like love and having fun at the same time.
In I Like The Da Way (I Do My Thang), where she features Wandi, she shows her versatility of blending R&B and hip hop. Chomee has indeed matured musically, and her future looks quite bright. The example is shown in the slow jam Sick & Tired where collaborates with fellow 999 musician Presss. The two just flow and heal you when you have love problems...
This album has an element of surprise in the fact that Chomee changes the gears and performs some bee-pop tune in I Love My Bad Boy.After making a name for herself with the hit song Jiver Sexy, she has retained this song, which is one of people's favourites.
"This song identifies with my trademark. That is why when people are partying or dancing up a storm in clubs, they always say to fellow patrons, Jiver Sexy."
The new album has been produced by 999 Music's staff such as Arthur, Jamela, Presss, Wash and Sama award-winning DJ, Black Coffee, who has remixed Fantasy into a Club anthem. With Chomee looking sexy and more sexy everyday, Arthur has a hand in making sure that her artist appeals on stage and off the stage.
She enthuses about him: "I think he's a living legend. He's not only a smart businessman but he's also a great dancer and a performer. Can you believe that he also helps me with my styling?"
The King of Kwaito should know more about changing a simple girl into a superstar material. He has been in this business long enough to know what the fans want and like. Chomee is not his only protégé who is making a name for herself, he has unleashed other unknown artists such as Aba Shante, Nestum, Purity, Queen, Lira - the list of the divas in making goes on and on.
The album sleeve of My Fantasy is actually elevates Chomee to a poster girl, and she is aware that she is making an impact in the industry, Even one male prisoner wrote a letter to a local newspaper - confessing that he has a picture of Chomee on his wall, and by looking at her, he get hope that he will, on the day of his release, marry her.
Last year Chomee caused a stir when she publicly said she did not have a man. She says she still hasn't found someone that she is looking for - but she is still hopeful that a man who loves her will come her way.
"Look, in 2007 I'll be 21, and I don't think I'm being left behind in the department of love. I will find someone at a later stage - be it this year or anytime when time allows. At the moment I'm focusing on my music career, and I still want to achieve many things in life like Aaliyah did at a very young age," she says confidently.
So if you looking for an album that talks about love and at the same time celebrating our bodies, then this album is one. It has a song, Dlala Ngefigure, which encourages you to shake your figure ala Shakira and Beyonce!
And with the change in your style of singing which is more hop hop and dance?
She says: "You know, I started as a dancer, then I went on to become a rapper. Doing all those things, I see myself more as a performer than just a branded artist of a certain genre. I mean, being a musician I don’t think you should be restricted to a certain style of music, unless that’s what you prefer. Chomee is a musician who performs whatever that flows with her blood at that specific time."
She says she is following her passion, and at the same time trying to win new fans. Truth be told, Chomee is not like an artist who won't try new things. She says the risk in any kind of a business is worth it: "The most important thing to me is pursuing your passion and my passion is entertaining people. So when I get into a studio whatever beat they give me as long as I feel it I bless it, anyway Rap and R&B music works hand in hand."
Some of the artists that she look up to include the likes of Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Ciara, KB, Queen, Thandiswa, Presss, Tuks, Zombo and Yvonne Chaka Chaka whom she thinks she’s on another level in terms of her business approach.
Enough said about Chomee, it's now time to listen to this young talent sing while we dance to her music.
