Bridget Masinga

Bridget Masinga, the Durban born beauty has been a sought after face since she first burst onto our screens as ‘the pit-bull in the skirt’ in the Miss SA in 2002. She went on to nab the title of Miss SA runner up 2002/3 at the competition, a move that catapulted her to lucrative modeling contracts in both electronic and print campaigns for a number of top brands including Levi’s, MTN and Edgars.

2005 saw the birth of a brand new generation in Gauteng with 24- year-old Bridget Masinga right at the helm of the revolution. Her brand of bubbly radio chatter has earned her a huge following as the host of The Elevator, the pre-breakfast slot on YFM 99.2 GP’s hottest frequency. By 2006 Bridget was hitting the small screen in a new role, as an actress on South Africa’s most watched and longest running soap Generations, as Zoë, the hard-hitting controversial and challenging character. Hardened critics said she handled the role with tenacity and passion, a Bridget quality.

Bridget was also a long running presenter for music programmes Selekta and Beatlab on GO TV! Before moving to the popular new quiz show Temptations that launched in MNET Open Time in September 2006 and in 2008 Bridget went on to present The MNET Movie Show on MM2 on which she added her signature to the role of movie guru. Television viewers can catch Bridget on the highly rated MNET’s lifestyle magazine show All Access, which airs every Thursday at 7:30PM.

Most famous modeling shot is a naked Bridget covered by a python, which was featured in an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign by a mainstream magazine.

In her 10-year-long modeling career Bridget has showcased designs for the likes of Gideon, Marc and Michael and Tom Ford etc. 2007 saw the bubbly Ms Masinga take on a lead role as the conservative thinker, Theresa in the country’s most anticipated beach drama aired on SABC 1, Bay of Plenty. This went on to win Best Ensemble cast at the 2008 SAFTAS. But as with all pageant queens Bridget’s beauty does not come without a purpose, she is the celebrity patron of charities like Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

Her brand of big sisterly advice and trendy dress sense has endeared her to thousand’s of young women as a media role model for the new generation. Thousands tune in every week-end between 12-3pm on GP’s hottest frequency 99.2 Y FM to get their weekly fix of Bridget on Y, the Sunday edition of the show includes the super popular interview segment called ‘Young Black & Fabulous’ that finds Bridget conversing with some of the world’s most influential, accomplished and fabulous under 40s. The list is long and includes people like Hollywood actresses Rachel True, Lela Arcieri, Natalie Desselle-Reid, Afro-Soul sensation Simphiwe Dana, business man Given Mkhari and many more.
