Sistahood is a professional, 6-piece, all-female band. The band consists of Kelly Bell on trombone & vocals, Celeste Williams on piano & vocals, Tracey Appolis on bass, Charla Grantham on vocals and Terryl Bell on drums, Denay Willie on vocals and keyboard. This versatile group plays music covering a variety of genres from jazz to funk, African, gospel, soul, r&b and importantly, original music from the members. They pride themselves on being professional female artists, promoting women in music, especially as instrumentalists. Most of the band members are graduates in music performance, holding degrees and honours degrees from The South African College of Music, University of Cape Town. Various members of the band have performed and shared the stage with artists such as Israel and New Breed, Michael Buble, Winston Mankunku, Faye Faku, Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosman, Sylvia Mdunyelwa (aka Mama Kaap), Thandie Klaasen, Dorothy Masuka, Abigail Khubeka, and Jonathon Butler. The band was founded in 2004 and originally performed under the name, Anything Goes, but has since changed in line-up and personnel and now performs as Sistahood. Members of this band have toured internationally and nationally, extensively, and combining all those influences and experiences has contributed to the unique sound and performance of the band.
