Just watching the easy way in which Izak adapts to his television character as Scab in Egoli, few would realise that acting wasn’t Izak’s entrance into the industry – but musical theatre was!
After achieving a National Diploma at TUT in 2004, Izak was soon seen on theatre stages in productions including “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, and more recently, Life@Centrestage in 2007. In 2008 Izak once again graced the stage at the Pretoria state theater with Stage Door Academy where he performed infront of 1000 people. But of course it’s been his continued portrayal of “Scab” in Egoli, since 2006, that has catapulted Izak into the limelight and kept him there for all to enjoy.

This dynamic 24 year old singer, dancer and actor is undoubtedly one of the most instantly recognizable young entertainers in our industry at the moment, with television audiences loving his portrayal of the gutsy “Scab” in Egoli and fans following his every move. The South African public also voted him as “the hottest man in South Africa” on Heat Magazine’s Top 100 2008; with Izak being the top South African male on their list, and placed 4th overall, against icons including Wentworth Miller and the like! Cleo Magazine also voted him one of the Top 50 Sexiest Bachelors in South Africa. He has been on the cover of YOU, Drum and Huisgenoot. In August Izak graced the Cover of Huisgenoot for a second time with the article covering his CD release. You spectacular 2008 nominated Izak as Best actor and Sexiest man in the South African entertainment industry. These are only the main publications, but Izak has been in many other publications and magazines through out his career.
While Izak Davel has been setting the small screen alight as the popular “Scab” in Egoli, he has been hard at work behind the scenes fulfilling another dream – and one where the public can see him sizzling in a whole new light! Izak’s new album has been a huge success since it has been released 6 months ago. The album has been on numerous Top 10 charts on TV, Radio and in National music shops. He has also been on the DKNT (die kyknet top tien) and Sweep Slag a music program on SABC 2.
Izak was thrilled and honoured when Stephen Stewart and Jaun van Lingen from Fantasia Music approached him earlier in the year to see whether he would be interested in being signed as an artist.
This 14-track Afrikaans album, entitled “Ken Jy My?” was produced by producers/songwriters whiz, Werner Beukes and Stephen Stewart. The album is 100% “trots Afrikaans” and includes a number of catchy tunes, including “Is Jy In?” written by the prolific songwriter, Johan Vorster from the boy band: Eden; “Jy’s my DJ” and the title track “Ken Jy My?” However Izak is planning to release his second album in March 2009.
Izak will do an hour-long show at Legends on Nov. 12, at 8pm, and will perform songs from the current album, whilst doing his popular dance routine. |
